Artist Statement
My artwork is an investigation of intuition and the movement it inspires.
When I feel my instincts influencing my behavior, I get excited: An adrenaline rush, blushing over my crush, almost falling but catching myself, music inspiring my body to move. My internal drives steer my behavior without my awareness or cognition. My work captures and gives visibility to these invisible forces.
I consider myself a dancer performing within substances. I set up situations for my intuitive actions to leave behind visible evidence in hope that these unseen forces can be encoded and visually understood.
As a culture, we impose on our bodies with our brains, trying to replace our intuition with cognition. As an artist, I want to connect people to their intuition. I advocate for listening to and honoring the wisdom of our bodies.
